As this year’s Leaving Certificate exams start to wind down, it’s important that students now turn their attention to the CAO change of mind facility. The option will close on July 1st, so make sure you take this time to look over your choices and make sure you have laid out all your options and that you have properly prepared for whatever path you’re hoping to follow.

CAO Change of Mind Facility – Take Control!

Ducks in a row

This facility is completely free to avail of and allows you to finalise your CAO options in any way you want –  you can rearrange the order of your courses, or you add new courses, and you can remove courses. This really is the perfect opportunity to get your ducks in a row and take control of your CAO choices and organise them correctly in order to secure a place on a course that you want.. After all the hard you have put in over the last year, all the lessons you have learned, the insights you have gained, the advice you’ve been given, the options you’ve considered and the dreams you’ve had, now you can put all of that into practise and confidently complete the CAO in a way that is best for you and what you want.

You can log in and out of your CAO account as often as you want and make as many changes as you want before that July 1st deadline. The Leaving Cert results will be issued on September 3rd with CAO Round 1 Offers out on September 7th.

Reach for the stars

As always, and it cannot be emphahsisied enough – Whatever your dream course is – regardless of points – put it at the top! No matter how much you feel you won’t get the required points, if it’s your dream course put it at the top. Many students have got offers on their dream courses that they listed but thought they would never get. But no student ever got an offer on their dream course that they never listed!

Research your preferences

From here, place your course choices in genuine order of preference. Don’t become preoccupied with how you feel you did in your exams. Focus on what you want to do next. Lay out your options and make sure you fully research them. For the next 2 weeks leading up to the deadline, most Universities and colleges  are hosting CAO Information sessions  – so keep an eye out for the colleges and courses you are hoping to attend and learn as much as you can about them in the time you have left. You may discover some important information that affects your preferences – and you’ll be thankful you made that change when the offers come in!

Security

As a general guide make sure that among your preferences there is at least one course you want that you are fully confident of getting the required points for. This adds a layer of security to your applications should you not reach the entry requirements expected of some of your choices.

Good luck!

And finally, be sure you carefully check your application and ensure that all of the course codes are inputted correctly and that you have listed them in order of preference.

Best of luck from all of us here at whichcollege.ie!

In order to change your choices, log in to your CAO account via the ‘My Application’ facility and click on Change Course Choices for each list.  A New Courses list will then open where you can make your new selections. Your new choices will then cancel out and take the place of your previous selection.
