Two engineering students in Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Qistina Binti Ab Halim, an Energy Engineering student from Renmore, Galway City and Roy Sheridan, a Mechanical Engineering student from Castlebar, Co Mayo living in Galway, have been awarded bursaries from Galway-based firm TE Connectivity in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement.
TE Connectivity designs and manufactures connectors and sensors for several industries, such as automotive, industrial equipment, data communication systems, aerospace, defense, medical, oil and gas, consumer electronics and energy.
As part of their bursaries, each student will have to complete a major project for TE connectivity who will assign them a professional mentor to help guide the project deliverables.
ATU Engineering Students Awarded Bursaries
Roy Sheridan says: “I’m honoured and delighted to be chosen for this bursary which is going to be hugely beneficial to me in my final year of my studies. It will allow me to focus and be all that I can be academically and will alleviate the financial worry associated with third level study. I would like to thank everyone in TE connectivity, specifically Nicola and Ailish in HR, for selecting and sponsoring me. It’s an honour and privilege to be chosen. I’m looking forward to working on my major project under the guidance of engineers from the company.”
Qistina says: “I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the engineering field and joined the ATU Energy Engineering programme indirectly after completing the first year Common Entry course. With dedication and hard work, I achieved good grades, and I am delighted and humbled to be the female student chosen by TE connectivity. The bursary will reduce my financial burden and will help jump start my engineering career by allowing me to immerse myself completely into my studies.
I’m truly grateful to TE connectivity for the sponsorship, and I’m looking forward to working on a collaborative, innovative and fun final year project with this innovative company. I also hope by receiving this bursary from TE, it would also inspire more females into STEM courses.”
