What are Angels?

The theological study of angels is known as angelology. Abrahamic religions often depict them as benevolent celestial intermediaries between God (or Heaven) and humanity. Other roles include protectors and guides for humans and servants of God.

The term “angel” comes from the Greek word “angelos,” which means “messenger.” Angels are very powerful beings who function as God’s messengers. Many times in the Bible they appeared to people and said, “I have come as a messenger from the Lord.”

Church tradition holds that God created them on the first day, when he formed the heavens, separating the light from the darkness. Angels are therefore His oldest creation, existing from the beginning of time itself.

What 3rd level courses are available?

Universities and colleges in Ireland are offering Angels courses in the following subject areas:

  • Angels (Fun and Relaxation with the Angels) – This class allows you to enjoy personalized angel card-reading meditations in the comfort of your own home.
  • Angels – Learn how to meet your very own Guardian Angel and have a greater understanding of Archangels. Learn how to make an angel alter, read angel cards, how meditation and crystals can help you, plus a section using the correct essential oils.

Studying Angels in college

Many Angels courses take place over 1 year to 4 years depending on the course and modules selected. There are also part-time courses and night courses available so you can be sure to fit in your studies no matter what your schedule is like.

Courses will cover theory work through lectures, assignments, tutorials, and taught modules. Assessments will take place continuously with written examinations and practical assignments combined to achieve a qualification.

Several postgraduate programs are available to train as a chaplain including non-Christian-based courses. As chaplains can represent a wide range of faiths, including no-faith humanism, the required qualifications can vary. Theology, although useful, will not be a requirement for a non-Christian faith chaplain. You could also consider work experience or a work shadow in the industry. Relevant work experience is a good way of demonstrating a genuine interest in the field and is regarded favorably by employers.

Work Experience will not only allow you to obtain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the industry, but it will also give you a chance to do some essential networking with other industry professionals and gain valuable contacts for the future.

Career options

After completing a course in Angels you will be able to get started in a career that uses specific knowledge of Angels, the Scripture, and philosophical beliefs.

A career in religious studies or chaplaincy would suit you if you’re interested in helping people, are a good listener, and can deal with a range of challenges presented by individuals seeking pastoral care. You should also enjoy giving practical help and support, often during times of crisis or personal difficulty.

There are exceptions to the requirement for being ordained, as roles are increasingly being opened up to people who have relevant experience. You would rarely work on a freelance or self-employed basis for this type of work. However, it’s commonplace to find part-time roles. Most opportunities are in the public, academic, voluntary, and could also find opportunities through individual institutions, universities, and schools.

Working hours will depend on whether you are employed by a company with set business hours or if you are contracted to various facilities or companies. The hours are usually full-time, Monday to Friday, however, you may have to work beyond this regime including evenings and weekends depending on your role and the setting.
