SciFest, Ireland's largest and most inclusive second-level STEM fair programme, has officially announced its return for 2026 and this year's edition marks a special milestone: two decades of inspiring young scientific minds across the country.
Since its inception, SciFest has been dedicated to helping students explore STEM through curiosity-led investigation, creativity, and problem-solving. The programme provides a unique platform where young people can present their work at local, regional, national, and even international levels—often their first step into the world of scientific research and presentation.
The competition is free to enter and open to all second-level students, regardless of background, circumstances, or school type. Whether you're passionate about physics, biology, chemistry, technology, or environmental science, SciFest welcomes projects across the full spectrum of scientific disciplines.
Students begin their journey at SciFest@College fairs, held in regional venues nationwide. Here, projects are showcased and judged, with successful entries progressing through the programme towards the SciFest National Final later in the year. Top performers at the final compete for prestigious awards and, for some, the opportunity to represent Ireland on the international stage.
With the 20th anniversary adding extra significance to this year's event, students are encouraged to register early.
The deadline for entries is Wednesday, 12th March 2026.
To take part, students should complete the online entry form via the SciFest website.
For students considering their future pathways—whether through the CAO, a PLC programme, or direct entry into the workforce—participation in SciFest offers more than just a competition experience. It's an opportunity to:
Develop critical thinking and presentation skills
Explore real-world scientific questions
Build a portfolio of achievement for college applications
Connect with like-minded peers and mentors
Gain recognition at national and international level
As the programme celebrates 20 years of nurturing Ireland's next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators, the 2026 SciFest promises to be its most inspiring yet.
