M Mary Immaculate College will welcome prospective students, their parents and guidance counsellors to its campuses for the College’s Student Experience Days.
Dr Patrick Cosgrove, Student Recruitment Officer: “These events are the perfect opportunity to get your questions about college answered by those who know best – current college students – and to experience, first hand, what college life is all about. These are must attend events for CAO applicants, fifth year, transition year and mature students. Come along to learn about MIC’s leading undergraduate degree programmes, student supports & services, clubs & societies and the student scene in both Limerick and Thurles.”
For those interested in post-primary teaching the MIC Thurles event on Saturday, 22 of April (10am-3pm) is definitely one for the diary. As well as opportunities to engage with current students, there will be an opportunity to learn more about Home Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, Business Studies, Religious Studies, and Gaeilge– the six subjects currently offered at MIC Thurles. While a concurrent session for parents on what to expect of the transition to third-level will also take place.
Dr Finn Ó Murchú, Head of School of Education (Post-Primary) at MIC Thurles: “We are delighted to host our Student Experience Day, which allows prospective students to learn more about our seven post-primary teacher preparation programmes. All visitors will get a chance to meet staff and students, tour the campus and ask their questions in a welcoming and relaxed environment. Of note this year is the introduction of our new programme, BA in Education, Home Economics and Business Studies. While limited in places this programme, along with all programmes, will be explained in detail and allow all future students make a more informed decision about their bright future and the role our College may play.”
MIC’s Limerick event on Thursday, 27 April (10am-1pm) will feature panel discussions, followed by Q & A sessions, with current MIC Limerick students, and the President of Mary I Students’ Union, Aoife Gleeson.
Aoife said: “I’m really looking forward to the MIC Limerick Student Experience Day, particularly the panel discussion. I can’t wait to discuss all things MIC and give prospective students a taste of what college life is like, as well as chatting about how MISU represents the MIC student body. This is the first year a panel discussion is being held and I think it is a great opportunity to hear about student life from current students and a really cool way to learn more about the College.’”
Dr Cosgrove adds that attendees at the Limerick event can also take student-led tours and speak to staff at the information stands about the College’s flexible and innovative range of undergraduate degrees including the Bachelor of Arts, its renowned primary teaching degrees, the well-known BA in Early Childhood Care and Education and the attractive Bachelor of Science in Psychology. They can also learn more about the range of MIC scholarships such as the MIC Elite Sports Scholarship Scheme, CAO Points Concession Scheme , Entrance Scholarships and the Ashling Murphy Scholarship.
Ava Horgan, second-year Bachelor of Education student: “I attended one of the MIC Student Experience Days when I was in secondary school. I really enjoyed the experience and it confirmed my intention to come to MIC. I found the different stands really interesting and the lecturers were really friendly and offered a wealth of knowledge. We went on a walking tour around the campus and it was there I realised that the compact nature of MIC suited me. It was a very positive experience and I believe that its very worthwhile for second-level students to visit MIC.”
