The COPDrop Panel Event at TU Dublin takes place on Wednesday, 30th November 2022, 13:30 – 14:30 and will discuss the outcomes of COP27 and hear directly from those who attended the Climate Change Conference.
This collaborative and multi-disciplinary COPDrop Panel Event is coordinated by the School of Architecture, Building and Environment, together with the School of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, with support from the Office of the VP for Sustainability.

COPDrop Panel Event at TU Dublin Panel:
- Panel Moderator, Dr Olivia Freeman – Olivia is a senior lecturer in the School of Marketing & Entrepreneurship TU Dublin. Her teaching areas include Consumption Studies and Education for Sustainable Development. Olivia has a background in sociology, and her research interests include the use of discourse analytical approaches across a broad range of contexts from the wider sphere of business and society. Olivia is Co-Chair of TU Dublin’s SDG Literacy Community of Practice.
- Clare O’Connor – As Friends of the Earth’s Energy Policy Officer, Clare works within the Policy Team to drive an energy transition that prioritises climate and social justice. Clare coordinates Friends of the Earth’s research on energy efficiency, decarbonisation of heat, and energy poverty. Clare holds a BSc from UCD and a MSc in Climate Change from DCU, where her dissertation focused on the energy modelling-policy interface in Irish climate policy. Prior to joining Friends of the Earth, she held roles across the environmental and cultural sector. Clare was a member of the Citizens’ Assembly from 2016-18 and is a former Welfare Officer of UCD Students’ Union.
- Giacomo Di Capua – Giacomo is a postgraduate researcher in Climate Health Economics at the Environmental Sustainability and Health Institute, TU Dublin, and a sustainability and climate advocate. He holds a B.A. in Business Administration and a B.A. in International Affairs from John Cabot University.
His experiences in the environmental sector include his current roles as National Director of ISEC Italy, founder and chairperson of Environmental Action Rome, Co-Chair of Technological University Dublin’s Green-Campus Committee, co-creator of the “School of Sustainability” project, and previous roles as Green Policy Advisor at Yezers, TEDx speaker at the TED Climate Countdown, and volunteer conservation assistant & field researcher for international projects at Service Civil International.
As a UNFCCC Observer for Young European Leadership & CHD Group, Giacomo attended COP27 in Egypt in November. Giacomo will discuss his experience of attending the conference and the outcomes which resulted after the two-week negotiation period.
- Dr Ken Boyle – Ken is currently the programme chair of the MSc Sustainable Development. He lectures on Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management and Conservation Management. His research interests include recreation impacts on upland and protected areas and the role communities can play in resource management. He has worked with local authorities on historic landscape assessment projects.
Ken has been running COP dialogue projects with students as part of the Environmental Management BSc curriculum and is delighted to evolve this project as a collaborative and multi-disciplinary one.
- Anna Hoare – Third-year Environmental Management student Anna Hoare, is an undergraduate student and has been working together with the participating class groups on developing content and sentiment from COP27 as part of the COPDrop project.
- Amber Mahon – First-year Spatial Planning and Environmental Management, student Amber Mahon will discuss the class findings of the COP27 conference.
- Mark Geraghty – As Environmental and Sustainability Manager within the Estates Department, Mark has special responsibilities, including the reduction of energy use across each of the TU Dublin campus locations. In addition, mark implements and manages energy reduction projects, programmes and initiatives to help meet national carbon reduction targets, working in partnership with all TU Dublin departments.

TU Dublin students present #COPDrop – a collaborative and multi-disciplinary COP27 commentary project. First and third-year Environmental Management students and part-time postgraduate Sustainability Leadership in Business students at TU Dublin documented the COP27 event as it happened, giving daily summaries of the day’s activities and highlighting significant outcomes in the discussions. COP27, was held in Egypt from 06 – 18 November 2022 and was the latest in an ongoing series of meetings of the signatory countries to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
