The application process for the 2027 Central Applications Office (CAO) cycle officially begins this Thursday, 5 November 2026, with applications opening at 12 noon.
The opening date marks the start of the application process for Leaving Certificate students and other prospective applicants planning to begin higher education in Ireland in 2027.
Students intending to apply should take time to explore the courses available, research entry requirements and consider the options that best match their interests, strengths and future ambitions. Applicants should also familiarise themselves with the CAO application process and key dates to ensure they are prepared for the months ahead.
The CAO application system allows prospective students to list their preferred higher education courses in order of preference. Applicants are encouraged to give careful consideration to their choices and make use of course information and guidance available from colleges and universities.
With the CAO 2027 cycle getting underway, WhichCollege.ie will continue to provide information and guidance to help students and families navigate the college application process.
