Available Places open for Carlow College this September

Carlow College, St Patrick’s has opened additional places for five undergraduate courses for Leaving Cert, Further Education and Mature students who are still considering their options for third level study in 2023. 

The courses now offered on CAO Available Places are: 

B.A. in Applied Social Studies (Professional Social Care): a CORU approved degree designed to prepare students for professional Social Care Work. 

B.A. and B.A. (Hons) in Arts & Humanities: a flexible, multidisciplinary degree at Level 7 and Level 8, offering a wide variety of subjects within five pathways: Psychology; English, Creative Arts and Media Studies; History; Philosophy; Theology (and Teaching Placement).  

B.A. (Hons) in English & History: an exciting and challenging degree, where students specialize in the English language and its literature, and immerse themselves in the history of Ireland, Europe and the wider world. 

B.A. (Hons) in Social, Political & Community Studies: an interdisciplinary programme that combines practical skills and theoretical approaches to Community Development, Advocacy, Policy Analysis, Negotiation and Mediation. 

B.A. (Hons) in Psychology: a 3-year programme designed to help you explore how the brain works and help you make sense of the human impact on the world in which we live. 

Applications are open to everyone, even those who have not yet submitted a CAO application for 2023.

Dr Thomas Mc Grath, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Registrar at Carlow College stated: “We are pleased to be able to open additional places for Leaving Cert, Further Education and Mature students on some of our most popular programmes. So whether students have received an offer they are not happy with, or haven’t made an application at all, there is still time for students to secure a place on a high-quality degree programme. Studying with Carlow College is a unique experience – one where you become part of a small, inclusive community with exceptional supports offered to help students to settle, stay and succeed.” 

The CAO Available Places facility opened on the CAO website from 12noon, Thursday, 31st August.

Carlow College is situated in its own grounds on an eighteenth-century parkland and is known locally as St. Patrick’s College.

As such, Carlow College is ideally located in the heart of Carlow town. Over the years Carlow has educated generations of politicians, priests, writers and public officials who were leaders in the society of their time. Today’s students find employment in education, community work, the civil service, media and the social care field. A high percentage of our students proceed to postgraduate studies in the fields of Philosophy, English, History, Theology and Social Studies.

The College has partnerships with Carlow University, Pittsburgh, St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa, the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs (ICISP) and with Trinity College Dublin.
