Course Description

CK 404 Environmental and Earth System Sciences

CK404 The environment is everything around us – earth, air, water and living organisms. Understanding the complex interactions between the various components of our earth systems is crucial to our management and protection of essential resources. There are seven degree programmes available through CK404 and you do not have to make any decisions about degree specialisation until the end of First Year. This entry area provides wide ranging job opportunities for environmental scientists, geologists, earth scientists, geographers, plant biotechnologists, zoologists and ecologists. There are no specific Leaving Certificate Laboratory Science subjects needed for this entry area so the First Year programme is designed to give students a good foundation across a broad spectrum of subjects chosen from Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics modules. If you enjoy any of the sciences as Leaving Certificate subjects, are happy working in a laboratory environment, but particularly like working outdoors and getting involved in more practical, hands on field work type activities then CK404 may be the CAO entry area for you
