Bachelor of Business in Business Administration

Business Administration is the provision of administrative support services to ensure the efficient running of a business. The business administrator has a deep understanding of business operations and processes. Universal functions for business administrators include providing efficient administrative and operational support to business teams; planning and organising meetings and events; co-ordinating activities between departments and managing client relationships. Business administrators may work in a variety of different areas such as human resources, accounting, finance, sales and marketing.

This three-year degree programme provides an academic qualification for anyone interested in a high-level career in business administration. During the first two years, students acquire fundamental business knowledge combined with high-level IT and communication skills. What sets this course apart from other business courses is the transferable skills acquired through the intensive administration modules skills such as time management, multi-tasking, organisational- and problem-solving skills are highly sought after by employers.

Modules include Document Design and Presentation, IT for Administration, Communications and Customers, Quantitative Technologies, Financial Accounting, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Business Law. In year three students study more specialised subjects in the areas of business and IT with a significant work placement element. Students work for 2 days per week throughout Year 3, providing graduates with real-world experience.

Entry RequirementsLeaving Certificate: 5 subjects at Ordinary Level D3 or better. Subjects required: English or Irish at Ordinary Level Grade D3 or better and Mathematics at Ordinary Level Grade D3 or better. Graduates of Higher Certificates: Graduates of a relevant Higher Certificate are eligible to enter at Year 3 of this course. Mature applicants: will be interviewed and assessed on an individual basis.
Carear PathGraduates of Business Administration will be equipped with the administration, IT and transferable skills necessary to work in business administration in both the private and public sector in areas such as administration, human resources, financial services, insurance, marketing, customer service, health service and local authorities. Graduates will be qualified for a wide range of roles such as personal assistants, leadership support specialists, office managers, business administrators and executive officers.
